PROBE ONE - packet sniffer software reinvented

PROBE ONE is the brand new network sniffer tool from FineTechnology that bundles the power of libpcap as the worlds number one packet sniffer with the unmatched flexibility and strength of snmp as the standard for network monitoring. Combined, those standards provide a new approach regarding network analysis and troubleshooting.

What exactly is this Probe?

Probe one is software consisting of a full functional packet sniffer running on Linux as a daemon process and a GUI running on Windows XP, 2003 or Vista. The Probe is available as normal installable software OR compiled and installed on specialized hardware as an appliance.

The intuitive GUI is the dashboard through which the functionality of the daemon is exploited. The daemon provides all functionality that can be expected of a modern sniffer tool and more. Besides known features as capturing, filtering and interpreting of the captured data in real time, the daemon makes detailed information of the captured data available in snmp accessible table and graph structures, which can be listed or charted through the included specialized components or through any other rich featured network monitoring system.

Features and Benefits

  • Fully functional, modern packet and protocol analyzer.
  • Get the full picture of what data is traveling through your network an see the variety and intensity of protocols used all in one chart.
  • Be able to give immediate answers on questions like “who is using a certain web site”, “What protocols connect to the Internet and which ones stay inside”, “Which are the most heavily used servers”, “Who's talking to who and how much traffic is involved” etc...
  • No more waiting behind the screen for a problem to occur. Simply plug-in the Probe, start the traffic recorder and leave. Come back to pick up the Probe and replay the recorded data as “live streams” for analyzing purposes whenever and wherever you want!
  • Out-of-the box, pre-configured configuration to immediately capture data.
  • Works as a passive, non-intrusive device. Should be connected to a hub or monitoring port of a switch.
  • Suitable for high speed monitoring for organizations with high bandwidth network traffic.

Who should consider using the Probe?

  • Network specialists or consultants active in the field of network analysis and troubleshooting in their daily work.
  • Specialized companies offering network design, implementation and management and support.
  • Banks, Hospitals and other “high sensitive” environments, looking for solutions to record and trace possible intrusion attempts.
